This show went down a road most call-in shows go that cause me to stop listening. People that call in to do a bit are the worst IMO. This isn't an improv show, but a Q&A show so why do people need to test out their comedy routines. It was bad enough when people were calling in high or drunk but this crosses a line for me.

I hope that celebrity voicemail at the end doesn't make people start sending more of those but, other than that, I loved this week's show. It had a great flow and a nice blend between videogame questions and random questions.

So now that Ben has put it in my mind, what's the name of that song that he starts "singing" with "Oh!"

I know I know it but can't think of they lyrics to look for it.

This is the kind of banger advice I come to the call-in show for.

Feel the same way, just can't listen to that.

While that end bit was pretty terrible, it also lasted less than a minute of this almost 50 minute show, so it didn't exactly ruin the whole thing.

You're right, it's the 1990 song Unbelievable by EMF.

The more this show becomes like an actual radio show, the happier I'll be. There was a thread on the subreddit about the so-called negative attitude the East crew has towards emails and corrections that I felt went completely off the rails and was missing the very New York talk radio like way the crew acts "negatively" towards its audience. Bits and drunks and stoners is part of that same conversation, and the more the merrier! The best part about talk radio is how very close to the sun its flying at every moment; the host could lose their mind, the callers could be absolutely insane, there might be absolutely nothing to talk about but hey, we've got three hours to fill so let's talk about something...it's all so gloriously human.

I made it 6 words into the final voicemail before turning the podcast off, thanks for making it the last one

Wow, comments section sure is overly touchy about some voicemail being a 30-second comedy bit. Jesus.

The live Q&A questions at PAX panels where somebody tries to be funny (but isn't), or just has no social skills whatsoever, or asks a super idiotic/worn-out question are all like a hundred times worse than the voicemail you're all complaining about. At least with the voicemails Ben can weed out all of the truly terrible ones.

As a New Yorker, I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. Radio shows are audience hostile or not all over the country and in Canada and Europe too. The East Cost crew being in/from NY is not an excuse or reason for whatever people on Reddit were complaining about.

Also - how is it "human" (part of the definition, even colloquially) to fill in air time with nonsense when there is nothing to talk about? Shows dont need some minimum length - if there is nothing to talk about, it doesn't need to last even an entire hour. It's not good for the shows if they feel they must fill in a lot of time, even if sometimes that works.

I dont really care one way or the other, but I think many prefer actual questions and less failed comedy bits.

I suppose you've never found yourself debating the existential angst of Young Sheldon being nothing more than a sequel to his older self over a Pilsner Urquell and shot of Fernet Branca at 1AM with a complete stranger because your relationship just ended and you don't want to go home? There is nothing more human than filling airtime with nothing.
