Bombin' the A.M. With Scoops and the Wolf: 09/19/2014

It is incredibly weird getting to work and seeing Bombin' the AM already posted and not on the live show schedule.

Did any of those PS3 Final Fantasy games ever come out?

Is this gonna be how it is from now on? If so this show has lost all appeal for me.

It took me a while to realise this feature is basically a podcast and I'm really enjoying it.

I was kind of avoiding it to begin with just for the fact it being a "morning show" it translates as live content at some ridiculous hour for my timezone so I sometimes catch like 10 - 30 mins of it and it just didn't make sense to me.

No video version? :(

FYI for non-subscribers, go to the podcast tabs and go down to Bombin' The A.M. The non-subscriber version now has ads (like the non-subscriber version of The Bombcast). This week's episode does not have video because it was recorded yesterday and it sounds like they didn't have the ability to capture it. The reason why it was prerecorded was because Patrick has to go to Seattle on Friday with his wife for some event. Also, it sounds like they are switching to Skype for their video chats (and it sounds like it is going much, much better). Finally, because they now have ads (only in the non-subscriber version), they can not just cancel an episode like they would sometimes do before. So it seems that, like the Bombcast on Tuesdays, Bombin' The A.M. will show up EVERY Monday and Friday.

Edit- You can hear construction in the background throughout the podcast. I guess Alex was in the NY office for this.

@devil240z: Nope - it's still going to be live video in the future - this is just for today while Patrick is out.

I guess they finally figured out Bombing the AM is basically East Coast Bombcast with one notable member missing. Shame. I always liked watching the video, and I guess that's dead? Tough to do ads on a live video show unless they're gonna start doing mid roll ads which are terrible, or pull a Rod Serling and start telling us about cigarettes in the middle of the show

Wow, they miss video ONE WEEK and apparently no one can be bothered to hop on Twitter or check out any other source of info before posting about how the videos are dead and everything sucks.

Wouldn't want to miss out on being the first doomsayer in line for the apocalypse, after all.

I'm surprised when Alex explained Battleborn/Battleborne/Battlebourne (?) that the comparison of Titanfall never came up. That was the first game I thought of during the explanation.

@undeadpool: I was fully aware they recorded an episode for Friday. I just was surprised they did a non traditional episode the same day they changed the format of the show to introduce ads and whatnot

I am unspeakably excited about D4. Looking forward to playing it this weekend.

Ahhh, apologies for comin' out of the gate so aggressive (though you weren't the only one carrying the sandwich board of doom), but there's nothing on here to indicate the video is "dead." It IS a couple of changes all at once, though.

@undeadpool: Like I said, I'm just curious as to how they'll introduce ads to a show that has been traditionally video based. Will they just do mid-roll ads, like on a bunch of Youtube shows? Will they take time out to talk about their sponsors, in a weird Wayne's World scenario? I wouldn't mind seeing them pull a Rod Serling and talking about the smooth taste of Chesterfield Cigarettes.

edit: And considering their history of issues with Google Hangouts, what are the odds they do just dump the video portion of the show? If you didn't have to put on a shirt to do your job, wouldn't you take that opportunity the first time it presented itself?

Watching that Swery video thing makes me miss the good-verse @patrickklepek,the new goatee, small hair, evil-verse Patrick is still cool, but, boy, those were the days.

@poser: Not sure what you mean. Three FFXIII games were released on PS3. Versus XIII became XV and moved from PS3 to PS4/Xbox One. Agito XIII was never a PS3 game and became Type-0. Final Fantasy XIV was released on PS3 with version 2.0.

I'm really sad that Swery's game has barely been promoted; heck, it's reviewing higher than most other things on their console. It's the only reason I'd buy an Xbox One myself as of right now.

Here's hoping we'll see a PC version though, I'd nab that day one.

@cooljammer00: Anyone who's a non-subscriber that watches videos on Giant Bomb already sees ads before the video, right? I don't see why they would need to add advertising to the video portion of the show. My guess (which could be completely wrong) is that subscribers get the the video version of the show with no ads the way we've been getting it all this time. And non-subscribers get the video version of the show with advertising the way they've been getting it all this time. It should just be the audio part that's changing.

I had the same install problem that Patrick explained. All I had to do was quit the game and relaunch it and it worked fine. So far I actually like the Kinect controls. They're dumb in a fun way. I've only played 30-45 minutes though.

I agree. I'm set on getting a PlayStation 4 in December, but if there's not PC release for D4 for a while, I might have to spring for an Xbox One next year, finally...

Seriously though, congrats to @patrickklepek and @alex - if anything, this just tells me that this show is doing really well in terms of viewership if they think it's worthwhile to inject advertisement.

As a side request... I would laugh if they read off ads the same way really shitty radio stations do.

I know I may be in the minority, but I'm happy Nomura is stepping out of Director for 15, so he can get Kingdom Hearts 3's development in high gear.

I also looked Nomura up a while back and apparently he was only the character designer on the 13 trilogy. He apparently didn't have anything to do with those games other than how the characters look. The more you know.

According to an interview at TGS (only in Japanese, sadly), Swery wanted to pull a Steve Jobs with the release announcement.

I think he kinda forgot that a Swery game isn't exactly an iPhone.

Reminds me of how many Final Fantasy XV (formerly Versus XIII) trailers and videos and screenshots have popped up over the years. All with the "this is a fantasy based on reality" tagline, which I thought was neat and in some lovely ideal world, could be pulled off to something really special/good.

This trailer (an old one at this point, looks a lot less polished and has different UI) you can switch main characters and each has some different gameplay, i.e. one guy looks sort of like a 3rd person shooter a la Gears of War (but probably more in lines with RE4/5.)

Final Fantasy 14 is good. Expect announcement (maybe trailer) for first expansion around mid October.

They did make a final fantasy horror game, it was called lightning returns. Easy joke I know but someone had to make it.

Iron Galaxy's name is attached to the disastrous Borderlands 2 port for the Vita, a game that crashes about every 15 minutes.

Battleborne looks terrible. At the very least, it looks like something I'll never want to play.

Anyone wish they had different feeds for the different premium stuff? I hate that I have to maintain my premium podcast feed considering all I'm interested in is the Wrestling and movies podcasts, yet I have to clear out all the podcasts that I don't care about (ad free Bomb and now ad free BitAM, Alt F1).

Considering I only want the podcasts that only happen (if we are lucky) once a month, they should have a better system set up for those that only want specific podcasts.

It sure is. One of the better MMOs in a while now, actually.

Thats gonna really suck if they're pushing the show back to 8:30 from now on. I wont be able to watch anymore.

Patrick talking about the Destiny raid mechanics as if they are new features is amusing to me since it's all stuff that MMOs have done for years. "Checkpointing" raids to the leader has been around for ages, for example, and it's not actually to let people come back after a break (though it certainly works that way as well); it's actually to stop people from grinding bosses for loot too fast.

I'm actually starting to get frustrated by how much Destiny and the media surrounding it is trying to not call it an MMO when it's entirely designed and plays as one.
