@d_w: The higher-ups don't get it!

I think you kind of touched on it a bit @jeffgrubb, but the reason why this game isn't a roguelike is precisely because there's so much information attached to each component, rather than "one number that tells you which one is better." Basically, it's a game where you're kind of expected to get really deep into the minutiae of all the stats (and hidden stats) and basically make YOUR mech. It's the ultimate mecha fantasy of owning your own giant mecha that is finely tuned to be yours and only yours. Of course, there's going to be a lot of different situations in the missions that will force you to adapt by changing up your build, but that's exactly this game. Build your mechs, overcome challenges. With this level of detail in the building process, it'd be way too time consuming and restrictive in a roguelike setting.

This game is a really good palette cleanser while I wait for Baldur's Gate to patch up.

@d_w: Sadly, Jan and Jeff hate anime, so they won't accept that answer.

I usually buy From games at launch, but since I’m usually not interested in mechs/mecha I will wait a bit on this one. Looks pretty great though, From have put on their A-game here again.

I never played any of these, but I love mechs. I'm not as fond of Japanese mecha design, and this looks like it splits the difference between mecha and Western mechs. A fully customizable mech is always awesome. This is definitely on my "eventually" list. Thanks for a great, informative QL!

I played one of the Armored Core games on PS1 a couple of years ago. I came away from the experience feeling pretty positive and interested in playing a modernized version of it. I'll probably play this eventually.

Armored Core 2: Another Age is one of the earliest PS2 games I ever played. Seeing a friend play stuff like the base AC2, Zone of the Enders, and Devil May Cry were what eventually got me to buy a PS2. I got really into AC2:AA, but I also got super stuck near the end of the game and never finished it.

Because of that, there's a small part of me interested in this game, but these days, I'm not as receptive to games with arrays of intricate details demanding intense attention. At least, not without a setting worth that kind of energy expenditure. For example, everything I've seen from Baldur's Gate 3 looks similarly exhausting, but I'm very slowly coming around to the idea of trying it just to see what I can do my way in that world. I don't ever recall being very interested or invested in the AC world back in the day.
