binghamton is physically south of hudson, which is solidly in the hudson valley. and i've had people from westchester tell me they are from 'upstate.' upstate is anything north of the city/island

I didn't think it could get any better than the train simulator flying into the air ending, but I think this ones got it beat.

@jakonovski: They're not "salty" about it, they just didn't like it very much. It's become a big part of current discourse in games media, so you're going to have to deal with people mentioning it, now and then.

Gosh, when Dan and Vinny are just talking Dragon Ball and Alex is just driving, it has the exact tenor of a dad taking his sons on a road trip, and I love it.

I’ve played all of Death Stranding, and they do not spoil anything in this stream. They vaguely allude to the worst quote (which is saying a lot) from that game, but you wouldn’t be able to figure it out if you haven’t heard it in the game for yourself. And besides, it’s a completely throwaway line anyways.

@tlchwi02: Only people not from Upstate think someplace like White Plains is Upstate. Much, much more in common with the city than cow country like the Mohawk Valley

Nice. Now that we're living in a post-Burgle world, I'm all for some more chill playdates like this one.

I gave this a shot last weekend during the free weekend, after how much @alex has talked about it, and...wow, he's right, he's so right. Honestly I didn't think I'd love it like I do. But there's something just truly wonderful about chilling and driving the west coast, or the southwestern deserts. The game is just so well made, those parts of America are so lovingly rendered (I drove Portland-Seattle like a thousand times when I lived out there for school, and I-5 just...feels so right in this game), and you put on Big Rig FM and watch the miles fly away.

Thanks, Alex, for introducing this to us. I bought the whole thing and am hooked.

I don't know when it started, but at some point "aesthetic" became Abby's "ostensibly".

ATS and ETS2 in fact DO support VR. It's not "official" but it is maintained by one of the employees and you get that version in Steam just like you would a beta. Right click the game -> Properties -> Beta and select the oculus/vive beta. As I said it's not officially supported but it works pretty darn good. My only real gripe is that, while the mirrors show you correct perspective, they aren't stereoscopic so they don't give you any sense of depth making reversing a bit trickier than it would otherwise. (unless they changed that in the months since I last tried). Still easier than on a screen tho :)

I am straight up fascinated that so many of the GB crew haven't ever driven... For a country that loves its cars so much, it's amazing to me.

I can't imagine not being able to drive...

GBeast is the absolute best, always and forever. There is a wholeness and purity to everything they do that is refreshing to my exhausted soul, much love duders!

I especially love these super chill playdates, whether it's trucking, Vinnyvania, or Nancy Drew.

Edit: God bless you @vinny for doing that 3.5-4 hour commute every day to give the world joy.

Going to put on my "Um, actually" hat here as somebody who lived in Utah for most of their life.

Alex gets off on a "5600 S" exit. No such exit exists on I-15 or I-215 as far as I remember. The closest would be 5300 S. Neither, however, is Salt Lake City. It's Taylorsville/Murray.

I am extremely logic based and not into bullshit.

My friend and I saw a hovering light suddenly and unnaturally accelerate to the horizon when driving. 100 percent unexplainable.

Last year my family experienced a tragedy while on vacation and had lights that had been completely normal the night prior freaking the fuck out when we all gathered.

Both of these experiences fucked with my science brain pretty good.

First of all thanks for making this publicly available and I appreciate Alex's commitment to the simulation lifestyle :)

Second of all it seems Dan has forgotten his journal. Your taxes do pay for roads and train tracks but it differs how privatized the public transportation operators are, like in most other western countries.

This might get political but one of the main reasons infrastructure sucks and keeps sucking across the western world is people keep voting for politicians who don't give a shit about maintaining roads, railways or bridges. Ever since television became wildly available it seems there are always hot-button issues that are more important (and yes I have heard of "Infrastructure week" and how that is now a loaded term in itself).
