Every other week, tune into 8-4 Play for talk about video games, Japan, and Japanese video games, straight from the 8-4 offices in beautiful downtown Tokyo. Hosted by 1UP Japan's own Mark MacDonald, John Ricciardi, and Hiroko Minamoto.
That story at the beginning about the girl looking for an apartment in Japan and specifically having to have her realtor filter the ones that don't allow foreigners made me sad.
Just a small correction regarding Phantom Dust: You can make your own decks/arsenals, and that is the main point of the game. It's just that in single-player mode you are only able to start making your own arsenals when you reach chapter 3.
In multiplayer you can make your own arsenals from the get-go, you just go into the lab to make one and buy skills from the shop as needed. Also, don't choose "Quick Match" because that option makes you play with premade arsenals. You want to go into the "OptiMatch" option and enter a lobby without the "Quick" game rule (which is the one with the premade arsenals).
Another tip is that you can use the dpad to check the descriptions of the skills that you have equipped.
Phantom Dust is a great game imo, but unfortunately many people don't give it a chance or don't understand it very well. The multiplayer is very deep and rewarding once you start learning stuff and making your own strategies.
Was happy to hear Jeremy Parish on the show, but the 75minute interview was a bummer. Not sure if it was the call quality or the personalities involved, but I found it to be super boring.
