I just realized that somehow Battle Blaze snuck up a rank since its inception. Wasn't it below Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle, not above? Same with Clayfighter/DBZ UB22 and Star Gladiator/Best of Best.

Granted I'm probably nitpicking a bit too much here, but hey, the science has to be done right, right?

Man, the back half of Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the biggest bummers of any anime I've ever experienced. Considering the last season non-canonical is probably the best way to go honestly. It's not even that it's completely terrible, but everything through the Dark Tournament was so good!

Also I've watched this show all the way through probably like 3 times in my life and I don't recognize half the characters in this game. Are they all just from the last definitely non-canonical season that I've erased from my mind?

I like how the voice samples in Yu Yu sound like they're coming from another room.

@benpack You should go back and watch The Three Kings arc from YYH to refresh your memory. It's relatively short and I liked it much better on a second viewing.

Oh snap, Warriors Rage. I know people generally only want to play the classics but I think that game had some decent designs for new SamSho characters, even if they were decidedly less outlandish than what the series is known for. Closer to Last Blade designs perhaps.

The last arc of YYH is far better than ppl are giving it credit for.

It's cool this lined up with the 4 year anniversary of RoF.

@benpack so on the Mega Drive there is a Yu Yu Hakusho fighting game made by Treasure that is super fucking fun and is the precursor to Gaurdian Heroes on the Saturn. You should really really play it Also read Flame of Recca if you want to series similar to Yu Yu Hakusho but has a much more satisfying conclusion.

Good god, what the hell are you guys playing that you think is so damn bad because the Samurai Showdown I've got on my PS4 is really fucking good. I get they have (and are allowed to have) their own opinion but Jeff and Ben are like the only ones I've seen who act like the game is terrible.O_o

I’ll add another ”the final Yu Yu Hakusho arc is actually pretty good”. It is a divergence, but I dig the direction they take the story in, and think the finale is quite strong.

Yu Yu Hakusho is my all-time favorite anime by a good distance. It's rather grating to hear Ben shitting on the final arc when he cannot even identify several of the key characters from it (or even the previous arc for that matter).

...why do they print out the move lists for every game?

In his defense though he did say it's been a while and he didn't really seem to dig the series as much post Dark Tournament so makes sense he would tune out a bit. I'd consider Naruto one of my favorite series but my memory becomes very hazy around the War Arc and Kaguya, etc. because it just wasn't as fun to read anymore.

I think the Dark Tournament is a bit overrated and Chapter Black/Three Kings are vastly underrated. Three Kings especially I didn't care for when I watched it originally as a kid because I wanted the characters to go out in a bombastic DBZ style over the top way with the universe at stake. Re-watching it recently now that I'm older I really appreciate how it gave each character a sense of closure and peace, allowing them to find happiness in their own ways and not be stuck as the perpetual heroes waiting for the next big bad to arrive.

@blannir: Yeah I mean it's not a big deal or anything. Just a pattern with him of getting so much wrong about an anime while he paints it in a negative light (Had the same feeling almost every time he mentions Dragon Ball on this site).

@janman It's good that you have a warning for the flashing lights but it's not super noticeable so I didn't actually see it until after I watched the video. Maybe edit it into the video next time or something? That stuff doesn't affect me but I'd hate for someone to get hurt because they didn't see the warning.
