  • An interesting pattern with AW2 and Zelda, both evoking feelings of nostalgia for 360 games - AW1 and Nuts & Bolts - but they are so, so unbelievably far ahead of those old games in different ways. AW2 in presentation, confidence, what storytelling and style can be in games. And Zelda in gameplay and world freedom and emergent gameplay.

    CONFIDENCE in every aspect

the actors are so committed to it all

    funniest game of the year

most stressful game of the year

most exciting for what games can do with the medium

makes me so happy seeing artists having so much fun and so much success

seeing herald of darkness at the TGAs, Remedy's slow rise to success from Max Payne. it's amazing

    i understand it emotionally

  • Very funny and well written. Evokes the Mass Effect charm of funny, mean and horrible, biting. Not afraid to get dark in an entertaining way.

Often feels like there are about 15 things happening at all times that are out of my control (pre-20 hour mark, curious if this changes).

Feels impossible to understand everything between the 1000 spells, statuses, and dice roll check things happening constantly. Game can become exceptionally unenjoyable very quickly due to this and it often feels like the enemies have everything going right for them constantly. I rarely feel like I know what I’m doing.

Game has next to zero tutorial or onboarding for all these systems.

Is an exception ROLE playing game, but often not a particularly fun to play game.

"Let's pick this line of dialogue-- oh cool I'm now in a fight that has 50 enemies in it I guess I'm fucked"

feels like I am constantly being punished for just... not being able to see the future??

Unbelievable that 6 years of dev didn’t result in more quality of life. Party management is such a pain. The lack of a way to flip to the level above you for movement/flight/jumps, etc.

Raphael fight is hilarious and amazing, 10/10 moment

falls into the same problem of many games where you can just keep doing the same 3 things all the way through for combat

  • Dead space and RE4 continue the trend of evoking feelings of 360 games in really positive ways.

  • Unpredictability within the familiar structure, even the side stuff every mission is surprisingly different.
