  • Witcher 3 does the open-world RPG RIGHT. What I love most about it is the depth of the vast majority of the quests, especially the side-quests. I lost count of the number of times that a character gave me what initially appeared to be a one-off, "fetch" quest that suddenly veered off into an interesting direction I never saw coming. Helluva story, great ending. Just all-around one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time.

  • Life is Strange is the one of the few games in recent memory that made me care about the characters and how their stories played out. This story REALLY goes places and in very satisfying ways. There was a lot of heart put into this game and it shows. One of the best games of the year.

  • I've had a lot of highs and lows with Rocket League but always with a huge grin on my face. It's one of the few games this year that I still play on a regular basis. I've finally gotten to a point where I feel like I'm really "getting" Rocket League, and that just makes it even more fun and addicting to play. Top surprise game of the year for sure!

  • I had a great time tranqing dudes in the head and then fultoning them for 50+ hours! I really appreciated the large improvements to the gameplay (sneaking, aiming, controlling Snake), but I'm still not so sure that going fully open world was necessary. Especially when it seems like more of that effort could have gone to adding a more fleshed-out story. I'm still satisfied with what we got in the end as the game just plays and feels fantastic. The only downsides were the side-ops, which got really repetitive, and the FOB stuff was convoluted and just not very fun to engage with. It's also a shame what Konami did with adding more microtransactions to the game.

  • Had a lot of fun planning/building my city and watching it grow. It got a little repetitive around 75K population, but I really enjoyed what I got out of it. This is definitely my go to city-building game from now on.

  • Fantastic strategy game with really good mechanics and lots of styyyyyyle. I finished the beginner campaign and that was pretty challenging all the way through. I'll definitely revisit the next difficulty when I have time.

  • Definitely my favorite of the Shadowrun games. The writing especially shines in this installment. Dialogue and descriptions of the environments and the characters are fantastic. It also has the satisfying gameplay loop of "do a run - go back to your base and get upgrades - talk to all of your crew to advance storylines - go on next run." Even the Matrix stuff is an improvement. The only complaint I have is the combat; it's not bad, but it's still just ok.

  • Rebel Galaxy was a really nice surprise with how much fun the core gameplay was, especially since it's only 20 bucks. The space combat was really engaging, and offered a lot of variety depending on how I wanted to approach it. I like that I was able to switch between smaller faster cruiser-type ships, or go with the much larger, slower behemoth-like destroyers. The space-cowboy atmosphere was pretty great also.

  • Definitely the best WadjetEye game I've played. The setting, story, characters and gameplay were all really well done.

  • This game made me feel really smart for figuring out the clues and keywords to unravel the mystery behind the main character. Doesn't last long, but what's there is fantastic.

  • I enjoyed being able to relax and take my time in Grow Home. Traversing the world and exploring all the little nooks and crannies was really fun!

  • So far, I've only played just past Rom, and I've had a really good time, but not quite as much fun as with the other Souls games. Don't know that I'll go back to finish it.
