My brother and I had several long conversations about Elden Ring at the dinner table. He's never played a From game before, but decided to pick this one up due to all the hype. The month we both spent playing this game is something I'll never forget. Comparing notes with my brother, and everyone else online, was incredible. This game is so full of stuff to discover the discussion never ends. Breath of the Wild is the only comparable open world game, focused heavily on discovery and exploration over checklists.
I truly hope more open world games go this direction in the future, though I'm sure making a game like this is much more difficult.

DIdn't play this until January 5th, 2023, but it was so immediately my jam I knew it had to be put on this list. What a cool game.

This didn't come out in 2022, but I couldn't think of a number 10 somehow, and I'm still playing this more than a year after release. That has never happened with a fighting game before (or almost any game for that matter), but Strive has stuck with me.
And with the release of Sin Kiske, the character I have been waiting months to play, I'm sure my time with Strive is nowhere near done. The only thing that will pull me away from Strive for a significant time is when Street Fighter 6 comes out in 2023.
