Characters from various Sony franchises, and several guests from multi-platform games of the time. Battle it out in this crossover platform fighting game intended to compete with Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.!
@Battezu Because the Sony exclusive roster isn't THAT strong so they have to borrow stuff like Big Daddy. Sony isn't as mascot heavy as Nintendo, especially since the Playstation 1 era. As much as game journalists want the game to have more obscure stuff like Parappa, that hurts the marketability of the game because that class of weird PS mascots never sold well, and anyone under 16 sure as fuck doesn't care about those characters because all of those series got canceled. So they need recent characters, but there aren't many (Fat Princess? Really?), so they've had to resort to characters that aren't exclusive to Sony.
If anything, I am rather disappointed about the potential of the inclusion of the Big Daddy. Since Sony wasn't as limited to use mostly their roster as Nintendo, I thought they would go all out with the guest characters (sort of like the "for Michael" commercial), but so far it seems like they would rather scratch the bottom of their line up before getting too crazy with guests.
I suppose because he is recogniseable, and also because Irrational and Sony have been making deals lately. This is why you saw Ken Levine talk about a PS Vita game that his team was working on. Whether that will eventuate, who knows. But I think it's nice to see third party developers characters make the roster. Sony have a great stable of characters, and it's good too see that other studios put their trust and faith into the team to allow them to use their characters to possibly better their game. And it's also nice to see Sony go back into their archives and pull out some of the older characters, like Parappa and give them a chance. He was cool before many of the people here grew up with games.
