Maybe it's just that the medieval setting fits in so well with the Total War formula, but good god a 3rd Medieval would be amazing. Thoughts? Besides the obvious improvements, I can think of a number of things that would make a second sequel really shine. Here's a bullet pointed list!

-Siege towers and ladders that aren't just death traps that conveniently funnel your troops onto the business end of a spear.

-The addition of the one shot kill mechanic from later games in the franchise; i.e. one musket shot in Empire will take out one enemy troop(usually). This would probably be better as sort of a side mode kinda thing rather than a mandatory addition, otherwise entire squads of units would be wiped out in about 10 seconds. It works in Empire because the guns take ages to reload and shoot.

-Cavalry charges actually charge THROUGH groups of units, rather than kill a few and then get stuck and consequently butchered.

-Actual navy battles. Wouldn't be as in-depth as Empire or Napoleon due to the era, but it would be nice.

    What else?

I would love to see another Total War game set in the middle ages, but I think those guys need to take a break to work on AI and add some needed improvements on the formula.

I would like to see them do a different setting, but i can't say i would be mad with another medieval game. two ideas for a different setting that just popped in to my head could be China, when all the dynasties were fighting for control, or maybe even world war 1 or perhaps Russian Civil war? I think the China setting would be more of a fit though.

China would be neat for sure, but don't you think it would be too similar to Shogun? I know there are alot of differences in their military and culture, but I'm willing to bet that most players would dismiss it as a semi expansion for Shogun 2, rather than a fully new game(kinda like Napoleon).

You might be right:/ As much as I want Medieval to be hooked up to an iv and pumped directly into my blood stream, it's probably for the better that they take a break and figure out how to freshen things up.

@TomA: Here's one.. total wall destruction. None of that weird holes in walls destruction they use now! Also, don't make artillery fire at the center of the unit, stick them behind something and even though most of the unit is poking out, you cant hit them!

Shogun 2 was unplayable for me, the degree of difficulty in the course of a normal campaign skyrocketed way too quickly, which was terrible, because I found the gameplay to otherwise be fantastic, and by far the best in the series, if they don't have that accursed realm divide mechanic a Medieval 3 would be pretty awesome!

There would cease to be unit formations at that point which makes it tricky, maybe a World War I game in the total war style could work as you would still be moving large masses of soldiers at once.

    1) It was unplayable for me too....because it blue screened everytime i booted it. I figured out that was a major issue for quite a few people. You have to update your BIOS, which I have not yet done. 2) Or they could just say "screw it" and have orderly formations of Nazi MG's march towards British rifle divisions. You know, makes sense.
