    I have a Dell m1530 with a 8600m GT, 4GB Crucial RAM and a T8100 2.1GHz.

The Steam weekend deal is Lost Planet for £3.50. How well will it run on my lappy? I can't find any decent benches for it.

I had a laptop with an 8600M GT before...my guess is that it will barely run Lost Planet at an acceptable framerate at a very low resolution with almost all details turned down to minimum.

Wow really? Strange considering I can run Bioshock, FEAR 2, Crysis Warhead etc on Medium, in some cases with a few highs and AA.

Bioshock on medium with an acceptable framerate on the 8600M GT?  Are you sure it's an 8600M GT?  What resolution are you playing these games at?

Is your 8600M GT 512MB or GDDR3 or something?

1440x900... have you actually ever used an 8600m GT for gaming?

Yeah, for a year.  It was terrible, but you didn't answer my question...is yours 512mb or does it have faster memory?  I think mine was DDR2.

What the.. you must have had a crappy cpu or something. I find it's great for gaming, obviously I'm not gonna hit the Highs in the newer games but it runs everything at very pretty settings.

Maybe we have different ideas about what's an acceptable FPS? 30-40 is fine for me.

Meh, 40 is the lowest acceptable to me. But anyway, there's a demo on Steam. Go to the game's store page and click official demo to the right. Easy as pie.

I believe the processor I had with that particular laptop was a T7500 core 2 duo.  nothing great :/.  Now I'm on a T9800 with a 512 MB Radeon 3670 HD though, much better than I had it before that's for sure.

Just tried out the demo and did the performance test. Ran at Low/Mid settings at 1440x900 with an average of 30ish FPS. Seems like it isn't too well optimized compared to other games or something, might give it a miss.

Tis annoying cuz I had it on 360 and enjoyed it, until it broke (got disc read errors all the time) and it was too late to return it.

You're not really missing anything that great anyway.  I thought Lost Planet was average.  It's a great deal at $5 but...meh.
