I'm just curious about something... locally this is always referred to as GLBT. On this site it's LGBT...
Is this a regional difference, or is it an error on the site?
LGBT
Concept »
An umbrella term for any sexual orientation or gender identity that is not straight.
LGBT? GLBT? huh?
Im guessing that it is a regional difference, Axercia (the users who added this is not from the states)
Wikipedia says it is the international wording for it.
LGBT (also GLBT) is an initialism referring collectively to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender/transsexual people. In use since the 1990s, the term LGBT is an adaptation of the initialism LGB which itself started replacing the phrase gay community which many within the LGBT communities felt did not represent accurately all those to which it referred. In modern use, LGBT relates to the diversity of sexuality and gender identity-based cultures, and is sometimes used to refer to anyone who is non-heterosexual, and not exclusively people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender. LGBT is presently so mainstream that it has been adopted by the majority of the LGBT community centers and LGBT media in most English-speaking countries.
I've only ever seen it as LGBT. The only kind of alternative i've seen is LGB because T isn't a sexuality.
