Killzone 2 singleplayer not all it could be

I felt a bit dissappointed with Killzone 2. I was expecting a grand single player experience with good story, interesting characters and great visuals and sound. I felt I only got delivered the last two, the game has awesome visuals and sounds and good production values overall. However; I feel the story and characters are real big dissappointments. The story is real basic and has no real drive, it's actually quite boring. And the characters all seem flat and uninteresting. I don't play multiplayer so take this in account when considering my review.

A bit on the short side, but your points are valid..

The lacking story is probable ( other than the controls ) my main issue to on my second playtrough - it could have been so awesome, but it just drops you on the lander with 4 dudes of whom you only hear from breifly in the 7 hour it takes to play trough the campaign.. and when ( SPOILER WARNING  ) they finally try to put in some emotion by having someone ( LAST SPOILER WARNING!!!! )  wounded later on, it's a dude you hardly know and who doesn't really mean much with the 100s of fellow grunts you've already seen off'ed..

Like Call of Duty is a masterpiece of story. What is the character's name again? Soap? Yes, truly epic. (Sarcasm)

    @thiago:

What is your problem? I've not mentioned Call of Duty at all. This was my experience with Killzone 2 and I have not compared it to any other games.

Just because you think Killzone 2 is the best game ever doesn't mean everyone else thinks the same. I've noticed your comments to the other user reviews of Killzone 2 as well and you come off as a quite childish person. I would be embarrassed.

Which FPSes have better stories in your opinion? If you say Killzone 2 has a lame story then you probably believe some other FPS has a better story, for comparative purposes. The Killzone story is not lame, it is not just a masterpiece, but all shooters are like that. Call of Duty is another example of lameness, but nobody cares, because the fun of the game is the war simulation.

I am just looking for logical arguments. You can base your arguments on factual things, then I won't post anything.

@thiago: If you desperately need to know; on the PS3 I think the Resistance series did a better job on the story and characters and if we're talking all systems overall I feel that GoW and Halo stands out as good ones. Both those games have a great universe, exiting story and characters you remember.

Really? Gears don't even tell you why you are fighting, what your enemies are. The Locust don't exhibit organization, purpose nor intelligence. You pass the entire game following orders without knowing why. All you have are marine cliches.

Universe? Do you know anything about the Killzone Universe at all? Halo looks like Power Rangers or some cheesy japanese series.

@thiago now after having pretty much spammed every user review with your strange anti COD views, your faboyism and overly pro Killzone 2 story views - how about you write a review yourself?

I still don't buy for a second that you have tried more than the demo and all this is your own strange fanboy dream of a perfect game to show the world whatever it is you are wanting it to be shown..

You really should accept that people who have played the game do not share your hyped up idea of what it should be! No one so far have called it a bad game - quite the opposite, but you apperently accept nothing less than perfect scores and mindless praising - maybe you would find yourself better at home on some Official PS3 Magazine forum or something... none here are on Sony's payroll and we do know how to think and feel for ourselves..

Killzone 2 is a really good game, but it has issues, it lacks story and it does borrow form others - that is just how it is and you spamming around won't change that...  play the game dude - play the game!

I am not anti-CoD, it was one of the few single player campaigns that I could finish. But it is ridiculous if compared to Killzone. There's no comparing it.

I don't accept illogical arguments. Story was never the strongest point of a FPS, and it does fine if the story doesn't get in the way. All of a sudden "taking points" is "ok" from Killzone while most other games have a free pass (most notably CoD4 ridiculous single player story).

Yes, no game is perfect. But GTA gets 10, Halo gets 10, Gears get 9 something. Yes. The standards of "no perfect game" should apply to all games, shouldn't it? Especially when this is clearly the next step in terms of FPS. The next level.

Dazzling technical display that should have been so much more 0

Killzone 2 reviewed on PlayStation 3 It is generally considered that to criticise something for what it does not do is fallacious. After all, it deserves to be judged on its own merits in isolation from what it may or may not have been, and to do so could prove a disservice to its creators. Killzone 2 is ostensibly a shooting game and what it does, it does pretty well. The control scheme is adeptly tailored to the two stick set-up, its visuals are gloriously bombastic and the action itself is m...

Killzone 2 probably has one of the most storied histories of any game in the past decade. In its now legendary E3 2005 premiere trailer it became the poster boy for the potential power of the Playstation 3. For the next four years speculation, and hype, or whether or not it could live up to this promise ran wild. Well, the game has finally arrived and I can honestly say that Killzone 2 has set the bar far above for any shooters to follow it on the PS3.You can't start any serious discussion witho...
