Love 'em or hate 'em, the one thing we know about Bethesda's open-world games is they launch with enough bugs to choke an anteater. So let's get out ahead of the rest of the internet and guess what sort of shenanigans we can expect from Starfield. My guesses and their general likelihood of appearing:

-- Two warring factions that absolutely hate each other, except they still converse at random when they meet in public 4:1

-- When on a landing pad, your ship periodically stands upright on its nose and spins for 15 seconds or so. Sometimes this also happens to NPC's. 3:1

-- There's a cantina full of spacefaring scoundrels who cannot order a drink because the bartender has sunk up to his hips in the floor 2:1

--An infinite cosmos of vast and unknowable wonders voiced by, like, six people. 1:1

Some of these aren't bugs they're just design flaws.

Honestly one of my major hopes from Bethesda joining Microsoft is that they get their technical house in order a little better. The Outer Worlds was Fallout in Space except it mostly worked. Microsoft has recently showed a willingness to delay games until they are ready and I hope that continues, especially for something like Starfield.

Of course there will be goofy bugs because every massive game has them, but I really hope this doesn't have normal Bethesda levels of jank and just has normal levels of jank.,

If I don't bump into a table and witness the entirety of its contents launch directly into space then it's been a waste of time.

@efesell: What if you're on a space station in space and bumping into a table causes the contents to plummet down to the planet? Would that be acceptable?

I'm more interested in whether or not there'll be ladders in the game. There was a ladder in that reveal trailer, so I'll be super disappointed if there aren't.

Also, any ladders present will surely be buggy.

If you pick up a Cyberman helmet and put it on a Turian backwards, they can't see and you can steal all their midichlorians.

I think it'll have a good amount of that open world jank we've come to know and...put up with?

I don't think it will have any major bugs though. I think (or rather hope) Cyberpunk really put the fear in the big studios to release a largely working product. I also think that, it likely being the first REAL big thing Bethesda puts out for Microsoft, that they are gonna want it damn polished, or as polished as can be.

We'll see! 2022 is still so far off I can't really comprehend it. Though after the past year, I can't really comprehend this upcoming holiday season either.

When you travel from one planet to another, something will happen that transports the entirety of the starting planet along with you.

@kyary: I honestly believe this. I bet the vehicles will have a tiny little NPC nestled in them somewhere because they weren't able to fix that aspect of the engine.

Any movement in a zero g enviornment will stop as soon as you talk to someone. You'll see NPCs spawning a couple inches above the ground when you fast travel.

The engine is going to start crapping out at framerates over 75 because they can't figure out how to do physics at arbitrary framerates.

Okay so you know in Outer Wilds where you instantly die if you step outside of your ship without a suit on, and there's an NPC who directly references the game mechanics, and the game restarts every 22 minutes, and sometimes you are walking through a cave and then you die because of "ghost matter"? Okay yeah so Starfield has all of that but completely unintentionally

Naked t-posing while riding a space motorcycle.

(I'm trying to apply Cyberpunk's bugs to Starfield, but that's the only one that I've run into consistently.)

No gravity in the incorrect spots, causing cascades of loose objects to get all over the place. Also, your space horse can climb sheer cliffs.

Remember that bug in the Star Trek Online beta where sometimes you'd spawn as your player character in sector space and fall to the "bottom" of space?

I expect that to happen every single time.
