Yes, Chex Mix quest is on PC, but has the effectiveness of twitch marketing and in-game advertising supplanted the need for a game based on brands. Can i get an Amazon based Factorio? Did i miss something? Any ideas?
Did we have any overtly marketing (non-cellphone) games hit consoles like the Yaris or Sneak King?
Advergames are rare these days, but they do still come along occasionally. Games are expensive to make, and I'm sure it's easier for these brands to just do deals to feature their product in other established games (Monster Energy in Death Stranding for example).
That said, a very recent example that comes to mind is Devolverland Expo - basically just a loose framework of a game around a bunch of game trailers. There was also that KFC VR training game that came out a couple of years ago.
@imhungry: Forgot about the KFC dating game. Is that available still? Was that a promo you had to buy into?
I Love You Colonel Sanders is still available for free on Steam
KFC also recently had that VR game where the voice of the Colonel taught you how to prepare chicken.
This also reminds me of how Burnout or Midnight Club or BF 2143 had ads for like Burger King or Gillette razors. I thought that stuff was hilarious and almost miss it compared to microtransactions and such
@efesell: Was it a paid for game? I would have definitely picked it up at the time if it were free.
@fourthline: Oh definitely not free. It tried very hard to present as a normal game until you were in it and they start talking about magic Skittles.
