Bill Paxton, dead at 61

Well this is some sad news. Bill Paxton, known for his roles in Big Love, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow and of course Aliens, has passed away after complications related to surgery.

I always liked Paxton, and thought he was a very versatile and charismatic actor. From his role as the patriarch in Big Love to his super iconic space marine role in Aliens, he also showed that he had range.

Rest in peace, man. I guess there's no way to end this post without this;

There were no fewer than 2 'hoax' announcements of Paxton's death this week and now they turn out to be true.

Fuck.

This sucks. Paxton was always a highlight in whatever film he appeared in.

No, they are still hoaxes and not true because he was still alive then.

@mike: It makes me think it was less hoaxes and more people hearing about how badly the surgery went. It sounds like he was undergoing some really rough medical procedures. I hope he didn't suffer too much.

Fantastic actor. Not one of those that got by just being himself in things either.

Aw man. Fuckin' Predator got him for real.

That sucks, man. Last time I saw him do stuff was in Agents of Shield, and I was taken aback by how damn good he was. Just embodied his characters and made it look effortless in an underrated way.

So sad, Bill Paxton was one of a small group of actors that was always good in any part he had be it large or small.

He was legendary in True Lies. Paxton was just a perfect actor for certain roles that seem impossible for someone else to fill; even if most of the roles were secondary.

Yeah, I just heard the news. That sucks. Oh, and yeah, I have the feeling we'll be seeing some 'game over, man' quotes. It's sad news, but I did think of it when I heard the news.

I recently listened to the Aliens commentary track. The real Bill Paxton was funny. Lance Henriksen is too.

Man, I was just listening to his interview with Marc Maron not that long ago. A cool dude with some iconic roles.

Man, this one bums me out a lot. There are too many movies of his that I love to even count. I think he just finished one with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, I hope he finished all his scenes so we get one last send off.

People are going to bring up so many great roles obviously, I was always very fond of Frailty, he was in it and he directed it as well. Really good movie.

Aw shit. The man who gave us "THE EXTREME!!". Loved when he was chewing the scenery. Also Big Love is a fantastic series for anyone interested in seeing Bill get his polygamy on.
