So there's been a few posts about Final Fantasy games the past couple days. It got me thinking I want to take a stab at this revered franchise. I want to play them either on my iPhone 6s or my Kindle Fire (I have the google play store loaded on the kindle so I have access to all of them).

Does anyone have any opinions on these mobile ports? How well do they control? Are there any games in the franchise you would say the virtual controls would severely inhibit my enjoyment? Do you think it would be more enjoyable on the tablet or phone screen? I'm leaning towards phone as it's more portable.

I think I would start with one and work my way through them.

Be prepared to pay for them. Square's mobile pricing is on the high side. ~$5 for the NES games. ~$15 for the SNES games. ~$25 for the PS1 games. Ugh.

@sinusoidal: Ya I noticed that. There's a bundle for all of them at a discount, but I wouldn't want to purchase that until I played 1 and decided if they were for me. Also not interested in the polygonal stuff. Those graphics have not aged well, and I've heard enough about 7 that it sounds insanely dated.

I tried playing FF6 on my iPad and couldn't deal with the virtual buttons. Some people seem to have no trouble with them, but I just kept walking into walls and had a lot of trouble navigating the dungeons.

I think if I were to recommend one of them it would be the IV DS remake. The updated graphics and art they did for V and VI are criminal, and much worse than the original sprite work.
