    ...the knight that killed the king at opening of the game, I had assumed it was going to pop up throughout the game but it never shows up again.

    So, funny thing that. See, that scene was from the Kingsglaive movie which they patched into the opening later for the sake of people that didn't watch the movie. That knight serves as the main antagonist of the movie and gets killed in the movie's final battle.
