The Dark Souls of the MOBA Genre

Compared game to Darksouls, review complete.

That would make this whole review so much easier, but its incredibly hard to put into words, my excitement and passion for Dota in a way that doesn't make me seem insane. Whether it is watching professional dota which has been consistently awesome over the last couple of years, to playing with my friends whenever i can get a group together, i enjoy all aspects of this game. Despite this know its a hard sell for new players, the game is incredibly daunting and hard to get into, not only because of its cliff like ramp up to learn the game, but the community can be less than helpful sometimes, but that's the internet. I myself loathed the game when i tried it for the first time, only returning half a year later to give it another go. What i found this time is that the game for as miserable as it can be, is immensely rewarding when played successfully because of the sense of accomplishment you get from learning every characters abilities of which there are over 100, all the items and how they match with each character. Matched with the incredible high skill ceiling that you can tell is continents of MMR away from where you likely stand or ever will stand, there is a lot to aim towards. The other reason Dota 2 is hard to review is because it is constantly changing and evolving on how it is played, making it always new and exiting but can be detrimental to someone who leaves for a period of time and comes back to find everything different making it hard to get back into. Most recently patch 7.00 came out, and changed so many things in the game, all of which i have come to really enjoy and think add many nuances to the game that were not there before. I hope that my favorite game of all time can continue to have legs and move forward with any changes my lord icefrog think will make the game a better place.

The game is also the most respectable MOBA as far as monetization is concerned, all the heros are free off the bat as well as all game modes. The only paid services change the way the game looks, not at all how it is played, meaning that if your will is strong you can never spend a dime playing forever.

When you make a bold claim like I have in the title of this review, you can reasonably expect push back. After all only the Sith speak in absolutes, or so Star Wars teaches us.But when you have played as many different video games as I have (easily over 1000) for as long as I have (over thirty years) I think I can safely say I have a good idea of what good game looks like. Or in this case a special one. To me DOTA 2 is one of the very best games I’ve ever played, and the best multiplayer game ha...

      Dota 2 Review 0

Dota 2 is not a new game - I mean this in multiple ways. For one, its official release was in July 2013 (at the time of writing, it is currently May 2016); but, even before that, it was put into a playable beta in 2011 - five years ago. But, if you are aware of the origins of the game, you already know that Dota 2 is a facsimile of its progenitor - Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft III mod that was popular in 2003. I won't get into the history of the franchise in this review; but I do recommen...
