And does it mean I don't have to slog through the labirynth known as GfW Marketplace and I can just wait until Minerva's Den DLC is released on Steam?

P.S. I clicked through some games in my library and discovered that Batman: Arkham Asylum also got Steam achievements.

P.P.S. Store pages for mentioned games still say GfWL client is required.

That and the Batman games have been transitioning off of GFWL and onto Steam for a while now. The achievements are not actually active yet though, probably not until they shut it down completely. I wonder if any other games will get that treatment.

I wonder if the achievements will unlock in game by "tracking" data in the savefile, or if we'll have to play the game again.

I own Bioshock 2 on a disc, what does that mean for me I wonder? Can I buy Minerva's den after this? If i buy it before can i ever download it again after that?

As for MD, I don't think it's standalone. It will be released on Steam as DLC, though. There's already a "DLC" section on Bioshock 2's store page.
