NBA Jam HD Is Coming, But You'll Have To Buy Elite 11 To Get It

It's a voucher dangling from a stick.

It's official-official: NBA Jam is coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but there are a couple of catches. First, you'll have be the proud owner of NBA Elite 11 in order to play it. Second, it's not the full version that is hitting the Wii this October.

EA has announced this morning that NBA Jam, presented in HD, will be a pack-in with fresh copies of Elite 11, the publishers' promising reboot of the NBA Live franchise. NBA Jam for Xbox 360 and PS3 will be a downloadable on the console's specific services. A download voucher, as you might suspect, is what will come with copies of Elite 11.

EA is saying at the moment that this version of Jam won't be sold over PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace. The only way to get this HD version is to pay the full price--around 60 bones--for Elite 11, which hits on October 5.  (Or wait until EA starts charging for it on XBLM or PSN separately.)

No Caption Provided

This version of NBA Jam won't have all the features of its once-Wii-exclusive brother. It's hitting digital download services with Play Now, Classic Campaign, and Online modes of play, the notable omission being the Remix Tour mode, which includes Jam battles against NBA greats like Dennis Rodman or Magic Johnson. I'll note, though, that Classic Campaign will offer a similar tiered ladder-style mode that Jam fans should be familiar with. And It's still unknown at the moment if the Wii version of the game will support online play, so that might be an exclusive feature for this version of the game.

How much will you pay for a downloadable or a scaled back version of a game? Ask a Halo fan if that Crackdown $60 disc was worth the coin. That might help with the decision if you're on the fence--provided that EA doesn't offer NBA Jam HD on XBLM or PSN at some point in the future. Exclusivity is a funny thing.

It it was a full game with a few different modes and online play.... definitely. I'm not interested in something as serious as NBA Elite, but have a lot of love for NBA Jam.

WTF!?!!!?!?!?!!?

I don't like basketball, I don't like sports games, but NBA jam was a marvel from my childhood, the only sports game I ever got into because it was easy to run around making shots, rebounds, passes, and slam dunks no need for all these tactics, or need for like of sports to play it, you could just pick up, play.

I have no urge to buy a full 60 dollar basketball game to get what I wanted a piece of my childhood. *shakes head*

There seems to be some confusion as to the need to have the disc to play NBA Jam, or if you can trade it back to Gamestop for $3
Either way, EA may learn a lesson about segmenting audiences, but they should have already learned about Wii 'exclusives' from Dead Space Extraction

This is disappointing news..  I was really excited for NBA Jam too..  But not enough to buy a rebooted franchise in its first year.

This is totally lame. Though, I am interested in NBA Elite now that they're totally redoing it, but I have no intention of buying it unless it's unbelievably amazing.

On the one hand I usually feel kind of silly for owning all the consoles in this generation at my income level, on the other hand at a moment like this I am glad I don't have to throw money at NBA Elite to get this game.  Especially since I really want to rent it first to make sure it doesn't suck and that isn't possible with pack ins or PSN/XBL.

This is just stupidity in plain sight. If you can't see past this, then let me show you.

So basically there is this game called NBA Jam for Wii. It will include VS mode and a Campaign Mode but no Online.
Then there is this game called NBA Jam for 360/PS3, which is just Vs mode with no Campaign Mode, but with Online.

The only way to get the first NBA Jam with no Online is to pay $50 USD.
The only way to get the second NBA Jam with no Campaign is to pay $60 USD for a download coupon.

The second NBA Jam comes bundled with a free copy of NBA Elite.

Now, you could pay $50 USD for a game with no online (though capable), or you can pay $60 USD for a game with online but no actual game (but bundled with the side game NBA Elite).

This is what happens when a once creative and groundbreaking game company goes bankrupt and is ripped apart and raped of its assets by larger dummy companies whose only purpose is profit over product.

We all know EA is not going to go through the trouble of developing NBA Jam HD to release it as sort of a preorder bonus. The game will hit online stores soon after that... Which is good, because I have no interest in Elite 11, and not going to spend 60$ to get Jam.

Well this sucks... I don't really like basketball games in general, but NBA Jam is one of my favorite games ever.

I love basketball & I love NBA Jam but am not a fan of Live/Elite.  I think they are missing so many people that just want an arcade game b/c of the nostalgia factor.
