Citizens of Smash Broatia, Hear Me and Come Forth!

Impressions on Super Smash Bros Brawl and the people that obsess over it.

So, everyone out there enjoying Super Smash Bros. Brawl today? Or does anyone out there even care? I’m kidding, I’m kidding, I know plenty of you care. But I have a somewhat skewed perspective on the whole Smash Bros. thing because there are exactly zero people in my circle of friends who care at all about the series. Yet every time anyone mentions Smash Bros. anywhere on the internet, somewhere a red light turns on to rally the inhabitants of Smash Broatia, who are ready to:

A) celebrate the existence of the game by TYPING LOUDLY ABOUT IT wherever possible.
B) lash out at anyone who perceives Smash Bros. to be anything short of the greatest thing to ever happen to humanity.

That’s sort of a weird disconnect for me. While I’m not exactly some huge Smash Bros. fiend, myself, including online play this time around means I can at least get out there and fight against people who really like this game. Maybe that’ll give me a clue as to why people are so crazy about it. Well, in theory, anyway. This leads me to today’s question:

Is anyone out there able to get the online in Brawl to work? I’ve been getting error codes all morning that correspond to “this game is popular, so obviously the servers are jacked.” That wasn’t a huge surprise. Now, I seem to be able to connect to other players, but when it goes to load the game, it drops the connection and boots me out to the main menu. So I’ve been sticking to betting coins while spectating matches, which has been sort of fun.

Between attempts at connecting online and feeding my awful gambling addiction, I’ve been futzing around the the single-player for a few hours, which has caused me to say “yep, this is totally Smash Bros.” at least twice. That’s not really a bad thing.

 (I'm new to this site, so I'm not sure if this is something I'm supposed to comment on, seeing as there are no other comments...oh well you could just take it off)
That's a bummer man. I don't know how big a fan I would be if I didn't have three brothers who played it with me. I would say don't waste your time with online, I've never been able to play a match that either didn't work, or lagged like crazy. I think some people just think of it as a kid's game, and don't want to play it, whereas almost all my friends play it. I probably have 10 people who come over (at different times) and play it. 
Hopefully you'll get some enjoyment out of the single player, or your friends will realize the potential for childlike, immature, smashing fun!

Listening to the Ustream from tonight, and wow, GB is 2 years old! So I looked up early posts.  Funny comments are still open. 
 
In any case, Smash Bros Brawl was huuuuuuge at my last job. We received a Wii at the office (4-players), but it wasn’t used that much until I brought the game, and eventually decided to play without items. And over time, people at the office became pretty good.
