Sometimes being a bit of a geek has it's moments, If you had a computer and you were playing games back in 2000 - 2002 Age of Empires 2 was your heroin, somebody passed me this link and the Nostalgia flooded right back, If you don't like this beat, you have no soul.
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings

Control medieval armies and develop a bolstering economy in this genre defining strategy game.
AoE II
One of my favorite games of all time right there
EDIT : Damn you i got pwned by nostalgia
EDIT 2 : for me it will always be this one i remember the most
" @oldschool: Because of the music, I went through my old PC stuff fished out AoE2 and the expansion, I have it tabbed right now. I suck! I have to get good at it again, I resorted to How do you turn this on, Because 4 enemies were at my door step "I never said I was good at it. I just love it. Every time I try a higher difficulty level, someone just marches in and destroys, then back to a lower setting.
The single RTS game I've ever played that actually consists of using some strategy to win, and not going
*build barracks*
*figure out the cheapest thing*
*clickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclickclick*
*click drag over army*
*right click on enemy base*
*win*
like EVERY SINGLE frickin' RTS game EVER since the eternity of EVER.
Long story short, it's the single greatest RTS game ever made.
" @Jimbo said:It was after Age of Mythology, so they sorta introduced a semi-fantasy nonsense campaign into AoE 3, rather than sticking to historical campaigns. I found it utterly devoid of charm." We can agree that AoE 3 was pretty terrible though, right? "Haven't played it yet. It was a step backwards? I have been looking at the Complete Edition - at a price. "
On the other hand, I can't recommend Age of Mythology (and its expansion) highly enough. For my money, AoM has one of the greatest RTS campaigns ever.
" @oldschool said:Well, I also have AoM Complete, but have to say it hasn't seen a lot of playtime, as is the same for AoM DS. I just keep going back to AoE 2." @Jimbo said:It was after Age of Mythology, so they sorta introduced a semi-fantasy nonsense campaign into AoE 3, rather than sticking to historical campaigns. " @Jimbo said:Yeah, AoE 3 was a bit of a disappointment, but it was still fun, for awhile at least, The Campaigns should have been better, I agree, it had so much potential too, the setting, it could have been grand," @oldschool said:Well, I also have AoM Complete, but have to say it hasn't seen a lot of playtime, as is the same for AoM DS. I disliked having to control the trade routes, it seemed more like a gimmick that should have been tied to a few maps and something else t do on another map, mabe then it would have seemed a bit more fleshed out.
Huh. So it wasn't just me who wasn't overtly fond of AoE3. That's good to know, I guess. Still, AoE2 is one of the best games out there. I still play this a lot actually. It's one of the games that hasn't left my PC ever since I bought it.

The Gamplay was good, graphics superb, Campaigns sucked, Maps were, meh.
AoE2 still looks kinda good. I can notice it's flaws now, but, it's still a really fun game.
I loved this game so much. Always have it on my PC or Macbook. Just cant imagine ever losing it. I still prefer 2D graphics in RTS games than this 3D. Sure you have move the camera and now the graphics have caught up but the charm is not there. Nothing like seeing a villager fall over and see blood roll out.
Is the game on steam? I may buy it just to make sure I can get it anywhere. I'm still using CDs.
That was a fantastic game.
" One of my favourites, yes. Wondering if I can install this on my netbook...no CD drive. Isn't there a digital download version for this ? "I don't know of any legal version available for download, but you could buy a disc version and maybe find a way to move it over via flashdrive or something?
